Injectables And Dermal Fillers

  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Injectables Using Collagen
  • Botox and Other Injectables
  • Injectables, also known as dermal fillers, are one of the most common and popular treatments for wrinkles.

Botox, a popular treatment using the Clostridium botulinum bacteria, is a familiar example of an injectable for wrinkle treatment. Collagen injections -- commonly used to plump lips and smooth wrinkles -- fall into this category as well.

The injectables category contains such a wide variety of treatments that it is easier to break it down into three parts:

    • Hyaluronic Acid
    • Collagen
    • Botox and Other Injectables

    Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar which works by binding to the water already present in your skin. Dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid treat wrinkles by "plumping" the skin around them, thus creating a level surface and eliminating wrinkles. Treatments in this category include Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Hylaform.

    Injectables Using Collagen

Collagen is a more familiar injectable for many people, with Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast® being some of its most popular forms. Each of these injectables uses highly purified human or bovine collagen in order to smooth wrinkles and treat scarring. Collagen is naturally present in our bodies and is responsible for over 80% of our skin composition (dry weight).

    Botox and Other Injectables

Injectables that use neither hyaluronic acid nor collagen as their primary ingredient include Sculptra, Botox, and Radiesse.
