  • What is it?

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid based gel. Hyaluronic acid is found in our skin where it serves many functions including adding plumpness and volume to our skin. With aging comes a natural loss of fatty tissue and of volume in our skin. Wrinkles and fine lines brought on by this can be effectively treated with Juvederm.

    What does Juvederm treat?

Juvederm is used to improve the look of aged skin by smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. It is often applied to lines around the mouth and nose, such as smile lines. There are two formulations of Juvederm, Ultra and Ultra Plus. Ultra is effective for improving moderate wrinkles on the face and increasing fullness of the lips. Ultra Plus has a denser formulation which is used to improve the appearance of deeper wrinkles.

    Treatment & Cost

All dermal fillers, including Juvederm, are inserted into the skin through a needle and injected to plump up and even out wrinkles and fine lines. The results are seen immediately. Your physician may apply some topical anesthetic to dull any pain associated with the injection. Cost can vary significantly from city to city and physician to physician, but a general estimate can be anywhere from $500 to $1000 per treatment.

    Do the Results Last?

A Results may last from 9 to 12 months, according to Allergan.

    Juvederm Side Effects

Side effects with Juvederm may include the typical injection side effects such as swelling of the skin around the injection site, redness, bruising (which may be increased if you are taking blood thinners), bumps, and skin irritation. These should pass within a week. If symptoms persist, call your doctor. Also be sure to inform your doctor of all the drugs you are taking, as they may impact treatment. If you have any history of severe allergies, or a history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins, you should not be treated with Juvederm.
