  • What is it and how does it work?

Radiesse is an injectable filler used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkling. It is made up of calcium hydroxylapatatite (CaHA) particles suspended in a hyaluronic acid gel. It also contributes to facial rejuvenation by stimulating the skin production of new collagen in a process known as neocollagenesis.

    What does Radiesse treat?

Radiesse can be used for the lines found around the mouth, those parentheses lines we often see near the corners of the mouth. It is also useful for treating the area around the nose. These parts of the face can be of special concern for many of my patients as they age. Lines and wrinkles in these portions of the face can stand out and using a filler like Radiesse can be helpful for treating them. Depressed scars can also be filled in with fillers like Radiesse.

    How long does Radiesse last?

This filler typically will last for about a year as the CaHA particles help to form a “scaffold” around which our bodies develop new collagen. This helps make the product last longer.

    The Treatment

To limit the pain associated with the injection, your doctor may apply a topical numbing agent to dull any pain. A needle is then used to inject the substance into the skin. No allergy testing is needed.

    How Much Does it Cost?

The price for Radiesse can generally range between $600 to $1200 depending on the treatment area and the city in which you live. To get a more accurate estimate of price, contact your physician.

    Radiesse Side Effects

The most common side effects for treatment with Radiesse are swelling and/or bruising at the injection site, which typically pass in several days. As with any injection, risk of infection is also possible. Blood thinners or other such medications may increase the possibility of bleeding at the injection site, so disclose all medicines you are taking to your doctor prior to treatment. Call your doctor if any side effects persist or cause concern.
