  • What is Restylane?

Restylane is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid, which is found in our skin and is one of the main components of the extracellular matrix. It works by binding with water and replacing lost volume in skin and evening out wrinkles. Once injected into the body, it is able to maintain its volume and shape by using the body's moisture. Slowly Restylane will by absorbed by the body and will eventually need to be reinjected.

    What Restylane Does

It can be used to enhance the lower portion of the face where lines and wrinkles are often present. It can be used to improve wrinkling near the eyes. Lip augmentation can also be performed with Restylane to plump and increase lip fullness, an application which has become increasingly popular and was FDA approved in 2011.

    Treatment

Restylane is injected into the skin in the area of the fine lines or wrinkles. This will improve the creases, lines or hollows on the skin's surface. Topical anesthetics may be applied to the area to be treated prior to injection. No allergy testing is typically necessary prior to treatment. It does not contain any animal proteins which also limits the risk of animal disease transmission.

    How long does Restylane last?

Results are immediate and wrinkles and fine lines will smooth out after the gel is injected. Results will last for a shorter duration in the lips, generally from 3 to 6 months. Other parts of the face last a bit longer, anywhere from 6 to 9 months. Also, as with any injectable certain risks of side effects are present which generally include swelling, possible bruising, and some mild redness for a few hours to a week.

    Cost

The cost of Restylane injections can vary significantly depending on the city you live in, the physician and the area being treated. Generally injections can cost between $500 and $1000
